Introduction:This study focuses on the effectiveness of a novel sildenafil (Viagra) tablet for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of sildenafil on the duration and severity of ED in patients with erectile dysfunction.
Aim:The study aimed to evaluate the effect of sildenafil on the duration and severity of ED in men with ED according to the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF).
Methods:A prospective cohort study was conducted in the medical and surgical outpatient clinics of the University Hospital of Freiburg, the Federal University of Berlin. The study period was a prospective period of one year (from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2015, in 2015-2016). The men with ED in the study period were selected from a pool of patients in the general outpatient practice of the German General Hospital, which served the community with a population of 3,828.7 million people. The sample size was determined by the power to detect a difference of at least 5% with a confidence level of 95% (α = 0·5).
Results:Of the 30,664 men who filled the study questionnaires, 8,066 (60.0%) had ED according to IIEF questionnaire. The average duration of ED was 5.8 days (range 1-19 days). The most common erectile dysfunction (ED) symptoms were decreased libido (44.9%), erectile dysfunction at the beginning (32.5%) and sexual dysfunction (17.5%), erectile dysfunction in the last (5.2%) and at least two months after a sexual intercourse (4.7%). The most common duration of ED was a decrease in sex drive (30.2%). The most common cause of ED was a decrease in libido (44.9%).
Conclusion:A novel sildenafil tablet in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men was shown to be effective in terms of both time to onset and severity of ED. It is suggested to take sildenafil for up to 12 months and to be started on a once-a-day regimen in patients with ED according to IIEF questionnaire.

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 27 (UPI) --The price of Viagra in Cvs has nearly tripled since June, and consumers in the U. S. have been paying more for the drug than they've been for the average person's drug bill.
"If they can't afford it, they can't afford it," said Scott R. Smith, a spokesman for CVS, which sells Viagra.
The drug costs the average person about $2.19 to $3.07 per pill, but Smith said that could be down to about $1 a pill for a 30-year-old who needs Viagra or another drug to treat impotence.
Viagra is only one of a number of prescription drugs that have become more expensive as the cost of the pill and other drugs has soared.
The new drugs, including erectile dysfunction drugs Cialis and Levitra, are often the first-choice options for patients who have trouble paying for drugs that are expensive or have limited options.
"It's very common," said Dr. Steven Nissen, a urology and cardiology physician at Northwestern University in Chicago. "We see people coming in to CVS and it's very common. And it's very common that people are paying more for their medication than they are for their regular medicine."
In a survey of 1,600 adults in the U. S., nearly 70 percent of those who used CVS for erectile dysfunction said they paid more for Viagra than their regular pill, which costs about $50 to $60 a month, Smith said.
Viagra has been on the market since it was introduced in the late 1990s as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Viagra was originally intended for men over 50.
Viagra can also help men with erectile dysfunction by improving blood flow to the penis. Viagra works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels to allow more blood to flow, the drug's makers said.
"Men who have erectile dysfunction need to be able to have sex with their partners," Smith said. "Erectile dysfunction isn't a disease. It's not a medical condition. It's a mental health condition."
In addition, Smith said, men who are sexually active should take Viagra exactly as their doctor prescribes.
Viagra is available as a generic drug and has the same active ingredient as a pill.
Smith said that with a few exceptions, men with a history of certain medical conditions should not take Viagra. The drug must be prescribed by a urologist.
"That's not how it works," Smith said. "It's very different from the typical pill."

Originally developed to treat a condition in which the penis does not work as well as it should, Viagra also is available without a prescription.
